Ciara Tuite’s new solo exhibition, ‘Heavy Stuff, Light Us’, investigates humans innate desire to become more minimal beings and connected with nature versus the constant pull towards materialism. The artist is trying to find a balance between these two worlds; the tension and non-linear process towards minimalism is highlighted through painting, text and installation.

The work is defined by bright tones and gestural brushstrokes. It focuses on the physicality of painting, coupled with instinctive mark making as she continues to explore the recurrent theme in her work of ‘body memory’ through colour, word and abstraction.

It is the artist’s intention to spark a dialogue among the viewer and ask the question if we can prompt our bodies to remember a time when we were light in ‘stuff’ yet richer in spirit.

Ciara Tuite is a visual artist and writer, originally from the Midlands, Ireland with a background in Journalism, Performing Arts and Fine Art. She has also travelled extensively and spent time amongst Aboriginal artists in Australia, Butoh dancers in Scandinavia and researching Refugee Camps in Palestine. This has resulted in a multidisciplinary approach to her practice.

She has exhibited throughout Ireland and has been awarded residences at home and abroad. Her recent solo exhibition “The Body Remembers” was held at Siamsa Tire, Tralee, Co. Kerry (Sept-Oct ’23). Past exhibitions include ‘Rock, Paper, Portal’ at Cill Rialaig Arts Centre, Co. Kerry, Ireland (July-August 2022) and ‘Nostalgia’ at New Library, Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford (Dec 2021).

Ciara is a recipient of art bursary awards from Longford and Kerry County Council and is currently Artist In Residence at Abbey Road Studio, Luan gallery, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
