Opening Reception Thursday 6 December, 5.30 – 8pm

The end of year show at Peppercanister features a limited edition screenprint by Sidney Nolan from the Ned Kelly Series, the original of which is currently on view at IMMA as part of the Sidney Nolan: Ned Kelly Exhibition. The image titled Mrs Reardon at Glenrowan shows the New South Wales police burning out a woman and child from a hotel whilst in pursuit of the outlaw Ned Kelly and his gang.

A compelling reminder of man’s inability to live together in peace, and the on-going struggles and hardship of people in today’s world, it is an image that resonates with many of those currently to be seen in the news and on social media sites.

The Ned Kelly Series is regarded as an Australian National Treasure and counts as some of the most iconic imagery in Australian art. The work also resonates strongly in Ireland, being intertwined with Irish culture as both outlaw and artist were of Irish stock.

Other highlights of the exhibition will be new work by Liam Belton, who continues to explore the possibilities of still life; combining vintage products and photography with collected items to create uniquely modern compositions that resonate the passage of time. New works from Charlie Whisker, Conor Walton and Simon McWilliams (who will all have solo exhibitions at Peppercanister in 2013) bring new faces to the familiar line up of Neil Shawcross, Graham Gingles, Albert Irvin & John Bellany to mention just a few.

Peppercanister will re-open in 2013 with a group exhibition titled Janus on 17th January.
