Chris Doris: The Space Between
Thursday 29 June – Sunday 27 August 2017
Limerick City Gallery if Art is delighted to hold this exhibition by Irish artist, Chris Doris which comprises two bodies of work. The large scale Open paintings are derived from a period of observation in meditation and they invite us to attune to the stillness of Being as subtle and open. The other body of work “Who Goes There” comprises a grid of 200 A4 images on sandpaper which are rooted in “post” austerity Ireland evoking systems that are ambiguous.
Doris graduated from Dun Laoghaire College of Art in the mid 80s and he has exhibited widely in Ireland. Doris’ studio-based and public works are informed by 20 years of academic and practical research in Eastern philosophy, Western psychology and science. He has completed an M.A. in Core Process Psychotherapy, which integrates Buddhist psychology and Western developmental psychology.
Doris’ work is in several private and public collections including: IMMA, The Arts Council Bank of Ireland and Contemporary Irish Arts Society
