Catriona Gallagher: Sketches for an Artificial Forest
Friday 10 November – Friday 22 December 2023
Catriona Gallagher will show an ongoing body of artistic research into forestry plantations in the West of Ireland and the North East of England. The films, models and drawings show the plantations as a manifestation of the artificial natural, reflecting on the mediation of digital landscapes, greenwashing policies, and the extractivism that threatens ecological collapse, whether speculative or real.
Catriona is a visual artist and filmmaker currently based in Athens, Greece. Her work probes at the collision of manmade and natural worlds, navigating overlooked details in our physical surroundings and their mirroring psychological landscapes. She uses moving image, drawing, writing, and research processes in site specific responses to place, revealing a mapping of more-than-human relations in place over time. Catriona was awarded the 2022 Wings Residency at Roscommon Arts Centre.
