Carol Hodder: At the End of the Day

Solomon Fine Art is delighted to host a much anticipated exhibition of new work by artist Carol Hodder.
The expressive environments in this collection of atmospheric new paintings are a sensory response to the artist’s encounters with the raw, elemental landscapes and shorelines of Ireland and beyond. The brooding weather, transient light and mysterious figures captured in these dream-like scenes inspire a particular visceral feeling of memory and place and demonstrate Hodder’s dedication to the expressive properties and possibilities of paint.
Hodder’s primary concern is with the act of painting and its process. Layers of oil paint are built up and inform what emerges on the surface – landscapes brimming with emotion and memory; where boundaries are blurred by passing weather and dissolving horizons, and where an undercurrent of energy and longing permeates.
Hodder is a Fellow of the Ballinglen Museum of Contemporary Art and has served on the Board of the Sirius Arts Centre, Cork. In 2017 she undertook a two month artist residency at the celebrated Josef & Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut USA and in 2019 was artist in resident at Nes, Skagaströnd, Iceland. Hodder has had works selected by the Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Ulster Academy and the prestigious summer show at the Royal Academy in London. In 2015 she won the Republic of Ireland Award for the UK’s esteemed National Open Art Exhibition. Public collections include The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, the Office of Public Works, Cork University Hospital, Limerick County Council, Bank of Ireland, Scott Tallon Walker and the Druid’s Glen Hotel in Co. Wicklow.
