On Wednesday 26 November, people are invited to lose themselves in the magnificent yet intimate surrounds of the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) with a spectacular mix of events lined up, featuring some of Dublin’s most innovative creatives. Taking place every 8 weeks over the next year, the second Blue Moon Lost Wednesday is coordinated by the RHA and the alternative space loving, DIY promoter HOMEBEAT.
This highly anticipated evening will be an imaginative look into the colourful and creative world of Dublin’s flourishing art scene and the best experimental live music, DJ’s, art and food the city has to offer.
The night will feature musical performances throughout the space from the upbeat and harmony laden, synthpop band little xs for eyes, the soulful, funk tunes of Feather, and new emerging folktronica from Participant in the Tony Ryan Gallery. Upstairs in Gallery II, find the nuanced eclectronica of Somadrone providing an apt soundscape to experience artist Karl Burke’s exhibition alongside a musical performance by the artist himself and live visuals from Le Tissier.
Keeping the vibes going in the RHA Atrium there will be DJ sets throughout the evening from Sleep Thieves, T/A/S/T/E DJs (The Grand Social) & more. And, in seeking to be representative of the explosive creative scene currently in the city there will be spoken word performances from celebrated slam poets Erin Fornoff and John Cummins.
Enjoy the art on display, enhanced by the performances and join us at the beginning of the evening for RHA Directorled artist talks in Gallery I with the FUTURES 14 artists an exciting mix of emerging, Irish artists and also Karl Burke whose work explores the poetics of space and will be on display in Galleries II and III. There will be lots of other exhibitions on display throughout the downstairs galleries for people to explore during the evening.
The gallery will also play host to a number of ‘popup’ surprises including some scrumptious, smoked pulled pork from ‘Hog and Pop’ outside the building, while guerilla printers The Journeymen will be there to screen print attendee’s tshirts, tops, tote bags, etc, all for free! (Bring your garment of choice on the night for a handmade screen print). The fantastic Coppa Café will be open for the duration of the evening serving their delectable food and wine also.
In what promises to be an unforgettable night, find inspiration in a space dedicated to challenging traditional perceptions in this event series that seeks to celebrate and embrace the burgeoning Irish arts scene.
