Beatrice O’Connell: Overwintering on the Moon
Thursday 1 February – Saturday 17 February 2024
Beatrice O’Connell presents new mixed media paintings at her first solo exhibition at Taylor Galleries. Her work examines bionomic behaviour and interconnectivity in the face of climate crisis, inspired by research on diverse perspectives within ecological storytelling, poetry and literature. The mixed media works include monochrome images of bees, and the repetition of the imagery resonates with a cycle of repeated behaviours. The imagery from a personal archive of photography and heirlooms, finds a common resonance between the surfaces of manmade objects and the patination found in nature. The paintings record a sense of Biophilia, a word coined by Harvard ecologist Edward O. Wilson, he explains it as ‘our innate tendency to focus upon life and life-like forms and, in some instances, to affiliate with them emotionally’.
