Artists’ Film International
Screening Room
Artists’ Film International is an annual collaborative project featuring film, video and animation from around the world. Selected, curated and presented by a network of global partner institutions, Artist’ Film International (AFI) is a unique film programme that is presented in galleries and museums, film festivals and online.
Each year, the AFI partners collaborate on a curatorial theme – this year it is solidarity– then the organisations select or commission an exciting moving image work by an artist from their region. The selected works are shared amongst the partners, who adapt the presentation in a way that complements their existing artistic programmes and venues – from full scale exhibitions to screening events at film festivals and cinemas.
For this year’s participation Crawford Art Gallery has invited artist Mary Sullivan to present The Fine Line (2022). Mary Sullivan’s film stands in solidarity with the work and livelihoods of generations of women of island nations. Sullivan’s cinematic postcard aesthetic creates an unsettling antedote to the precarious reality of so many women’s living and working conditions on a small islands or archipelagos.
Originally established by the Whitechapel Gallery in 2008, it is now convened and managed by Forma, a contemporary art organisation based in London, UK. The AFI programme is shown over the course of a year and reaches audiences across four or more continents.
Films will be shown in a looped presentation changing every four weeks.
