Anthony Caro: The Figure
Thursday 24 March – Saturday 23 April 2011
The world’s most influential living sculptor returns for his second solo exhibition at the gallery. Since his earliest work (confirmed by a 1975 Retrospective at New York’s MoMA), Caro has been one of the most significant forces in art over the last 60 years. His abstract works transformed the potential and public appreciation of contemporary sculpture, but in this exhibition we are treated to a series of figurative bronzes and drawings that have remained unseen for over 25 years. A hardback publication with essays by Julius Bryant and Rod Mengham has been produced to accompany this important exhibition and is available at the gallery.
