Anne Tweedy: Taciturn
Friday 5 January – Saturday 27 January 2018
Garter Lane Arts Centre is delighted to present ‘Taciturn’, a solo exhibition by Anne Tweedy. Anne Tweedy is a recent graduate of the Waterford Institute of Technology Department of Creative and Performing Arts and 2017 recipient of the Garter Lane Graduate Studio Bursary.
Her work explores the effect of childhood experiences on our adult lives. Her work examines childhood vulnerability, influenced by the Syrian refugee crisis and, closer to home, the Tuam babies scandal.
‘As children, we have no power to protect ourselves and no voice to speak out- we are dependent on our caregivers, as well as chance or circumstance- my work focuses on the vulnerability of childhood and how these experiences impact us into adulthood.’
This new body of work employs both sculpture and photography to explore the suffering endured by children and the impact of their damaged lives.
This exhibition continues, alongside 10 Stories to Dust, a solo exhibition by Keith Currams.
