A Space for Learning
A Space for Learning was a design competition initiated by the Irish Architecture Foundation to challenge current thinking on school design, creating an opportunity for architects to collaborate with the end-users of educational spaces – the students. 110 architects and more than 90 schools participated in Phase 1 of this countrywide project.
The project worked as an ideas competition in two stages, involving creative collaboration between architects and schools. Architects met with Transition Year students from a school of their choice, facilitating the students’ input into the design of A Space for Learning. Following this phase 74 designs were submitted for selection to the panel. 10 teams were then invited to further develop their design for exhibition.
The outcome of this exciting collaboration is A Space for Learning touring exhibition which is presented at VISUAL centre for Contemporary Art Carlow, to coincide with Éigse Carlow Arts Festival and will continue until August 21st.
A Space for Learning is funded by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Department of Education and Skills and the tour is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
