The Workers Café
Opening Reception Thursday 10 October, 6 – 8pm
The Workers Café transforms the Gallery at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios into a social space for discussion, learning, working, sharing skills and food from October 11th until November 2nd 2013.
The project also aims to provide the infrastructure for artists to earn money in ways which relate to their practices. The budget of the exhibition has been set aside to pay fees to artists, sourced through an open call, who deliver workshops, talks and performances. A temporary kitchen, called ‘The Hare’ after the SS Hare CWS, a relief ship which brought food to starving strikers during the 1913 lockout, will be set up to provide sustenance to local artists, workers and visitors.
The Workers Café will also feature daily workshops and participatory events run by artists. These are open to the public on a first-come-first-served basis, and cost just €5 each. Details of daily workshops will be available online and in the gallery space. A programme information sessions, clinics and discussions for artists is also planned, in collaboration with Visual Artists Ireland.
Opening hours: 11am – 6pm Tuesday – Saturday
Daily events and workshops take place at 3pm or subject to announcement on www.templebargallery.com. Workshops cost €5 to attend unless otherwise advertised.
