With a desire to explore ways that could sustain artists to work within their own locale, the members of Outpost Studios began their first year in Bray by opening the doors of their studios and inviting diverse audiences and communities to visit. The intention behind this was to introduce the many and varied ways in which contemporary art is made to new audiences, and in a broader sense, to raise awareness of what ‘culture’ might be and how it can be produced in our everyday world.

Following this a series of talks was organised over the past year with a range of artists working in varied contexts. A mixture of award-winning artists and community activists from across Ireland came to present their work and engage in conversation. Topics discussed included:
– innovative arts projects which engage specific communities;
– international arts practice and bringing the global to the local;
– ways in which artists might come together to create culturally inclusive events.
These events were made possible with the invaluable support of Wicklow County Councils Project Arts funding.

This exhibition includes an Opening Night and Outpost Studios welcome the opportunity to hear from a broader audience as to how they as a studio might further interact with various groups within the locality
