1916 Ireland in Contemporary Art – Éire 1916 san Ealaín Chomhaimseartha is multi-disciplinary exhibition of works by some of Ireland’s leading artists, commissioned and curated by art collector, Larry Lambe. Exhibiting artists include Robert Ballagh, Alice Maher, Michael Cullen, Padraig Lynch, Sean Hillen, Michael Cody, Peader Lamb, David Lilburn and poets Rita Duffy and Dermot Bolger.

In 2009, art collector Larry Lambe began to commission visual artists and poets to produce a piece of work that reflected any event of 1916. Varying in scale and media, from painting to poetry, the only instruction the commissioned artists received from Lambe was that the work should be linked with any event of 1916 that affected Ireland.

Also on the night will be a talk, ‘Reading the Rising, One Rebellion, Many Views’, by Dr  Liam McNiffe at 8.15pm presented by County Library Services. This is a talk on the  number of books published recently about the Rising covering the following aspects of the rebellion: women, general accounts, biography, cultural life of the participants, children, pictorial, locations of the fighting, Ashbourne ambush, lives of the families left behind and verbatim accounts of the participants themselves.

Both these events are free and open to the public, all welcome.

1916 Ireland in Contemporary Art – Éire 1916 san Ealaín Chomhaimseartha will tour to the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork and the Galway City Museum.
